Giving voice to rural and remote First Nations NDIS participants who are Deaf or hard of hearing in the Northern Territory

  • Description
This project aimed to understand what helps, and what makes it hard for First Nations NDIS participants who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing, to use their NDIS plans in a way that meet their needs and aspirations.

The project was conducted over a series of phases:

    • Phase 1: co-design of linguistically accessible and culturally sensitive research approaches and negotiations with individuals and communities to gain cultural and community approvals to implement the project.
    • Phase 2: yarning with 15 First Nations NDIS participants who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing across the Northern Territory to ask them about how they access and use NDIS plans: what works and what doesn't?
    • Phase 3: data analysis and drafting of findings.
    • Phase 4: developing accessible materials to share key findings back to community.
