Giving voice to rural and remote First Nations NDIS participants who are Deaf or hard of hearing in the Northern Territory
-
DescriptionThis project aimed to understand what helps, and what makes it hard for First Nations NDIS participants who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing, to use their NDIS plans in a way that meet their needs and aspirations.
The project was conducted over a series of phases:
- Phase 1: co-design of linguistically accessible and culturally sensitive research approaches and negotiations with individuals and communities to gain cultural and community approvals to implement the project.
- Phase 2: yarning with 15 First Nations NDIS participants who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing across the Northern Territory to ask them about how they access and use NDIS plans: what works and what doesn't?
- Phase 3: data analysis and drafting of findings.
- Phase 4: developing accessible materials to share key findings back to community.
